Predictive Accuracy And Modelling For Explanatory Power Essay

Through using R, we have created a set of models that help to predict the likelihood of a customer churning. By working together in the analysis stage we were able to ‘bounce’ ideas off one another and grasp a further understanding of the data and customer churn. We created two different models: modelling for predictive accuracy and modelling for explanatory power. What is our team structure? In the group we have four team members that consists of three males and one female; Ryan Campion, Samuel O’Connell, Hunter Stewart, and myself, Hannah Lowe. We’ve all worked really well together. Everyone has contributed and we have managed to meet the allocated times set to doing this assignment. There has been no group issues, or any person putting in any less effort than the other. In the analysis stage we tackled it as a group: we didn’t work as individuals. We worked on one computer and used the lab work we had done prior to aid us with our models. The reason for this is that we were confused slightly as how to read the models from the start; by discussing it with one another we were able to grasp a better concept of what we were looking for. In the reporting stage we all worked independently, within our own time frame. There was a discussion on the findings from the data, which is in our reports, but in our own words. Men must serve the military for at least ten years then assigned lifelong jobs and are able to support their families with that. North Koreans, rich or poor have this idea put into their head that their dictator is a supreme god. If someone had the idea of not worshiping the supreme leader in public, they would be sent to a labor camp. North Koreans who try to leave North Korea without permission may be shot on the spot or sent to a labor camp where they may never be released. In every house, no matter where you lived, there is a picture of the supreme leader that you pray to every day. When the supreme leader of North Korea, Kim Jong II, died recently, on December 17th 2011, there was a parade held that had mourners when the casket passed by. As the Supreme Leader’s casket passed by , the mourners were observed to see if they were actually crying. If they didn’t seem like they were sad enough they were sent to prison camps along with other North Koreans that didn’t join the parade. At these Labor camps imprisoned North Koreans are taught how important is to worship the supreme leader and sometimes kept there with their families for as long as they live. There is a building that these men on both sides line up and look at each other to see what the other is going to do. In it is estimated that South Korea there is 20,000 soldiers that guard the DMZ and 1,000,000 people that protect in North Korea. The DMZ is 160 miles long and is the most heavily militarized border in the world. The border was built as a result of the Korean War. From way back during the Cold War to now, there have always been trust issues with North Korea because of the nuclear bombs they possess and their threat possible to the rest of the world. What really makes everyone scared of the nuclear threat is that North Korea is so isolated from the world, rest of the world that other nations don’t know whether or not they are just bluffing. North Korea makes nuclear weapons and threatens they will nuke the West Coast if the United States doesn’t trade with them. Since they started making nuclear weapons, they have made allies with Iran, who are not allies with the United States at the moment. Melvilles first five novels all achieved quick popularity. In 1850 Melville moved to a farm near Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where he became an intimate friend of Nathaniel Hawthorne, to whom he dedicated his masterpiece Moby-Dick; or The White Whale (1851). The central theme of the novel is the conflict between Captain Ahab, master of the whaler Pequod, and Moby-Dick, a great white whale that once tore off one of Ahabs legs at the knee. Ahab is dedicated to revenge; he drives himself and his crew, which includes Ishmael, narrator of the story, over the seas in a desperate search for his enemy. The body of the book is written in a wholly original, powerful narrative style, which, in certain sections of the work, Melville varied with great success. Exemplification Essay Melville was desirous of hitting the right cord with the readers and his audience. He wanted to be able to capture the attention of his audience and leave an impact on their minds, so that the tale would be remembered long after it had been read. With Moby Dick, he used the powerful tool of imaginative fantasy to capture the attention of his readers. The story incorporated the extraordinary, action, adventure, revenge, suspense. ..in fact every ingredient necessary for commercial success. But it didnt prove to be so. The book is appreciated not as a classic work and Melville has received much more fame in the present time frame. In Scrivener, he drew a picture of a man very similar to himself. A man sick of working, finally declines rapidly to reach his demise. However, in Herman Melvilles Benito Cereno reveals the authors disgust with Emersonian transcendentalism through the self-delusions of the protagonist. Cereno personifies nature, seeing it as a benevolent force that acts deliberately for the good of humanity. Melville makes it apparent that such idealism offers no practical use in a world that is as much evil as good, and will likely be a burden. Cereno is Melvilles strongest example of his suspicions for the American idealist. In this one case through his expression of disgust towards the idealists and their idealism, he has portrayed the image of a hard core idealist who is converted to a realist through the experiences that he goes through. This also drew on his seafaring days as experience and he struggled to bring across the death of the idealist and the birth of the realist. But at the end of the day, whatever emotions he possessed about the nature of idealism and idealistic thought, still form an integral part of him. Whether or not the reader understands the general aura of wanting to achieve something from his creations, yet Melville still strove to be a commercial success and his aim for excellence in the field of writing continued.
